4.Stress. It happens to all of us. Whether it is the stress of a new project at work or the stress of a new baby at home, it can mean the difference between a good day and a bad one. So what can you do right now to relieve that stress and relax? Try these 5 ideas.
1. Write Jot down your feelings into a notebook and set it aside for later. Writing down your troubles and worries is a great way to get the stress off of your shoulders and transfer it to the page like my friend Tashina did. You will have these thoughts and ideas written down so that you may work on them later. By knowing that they are somewhere else, you may be able to get your mind off them for a little while and relax. 2. Take a Deep Breath This is one of the most common suggestions for relieving stress. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth ten times. Taking deep breaths like this slows your heart rate and ultimately calms the body. While you are taking deep breaths, try to focus inward on your stomach and breath rising and falling so that you will forget about outside distractions. 3. Play a Video Game Playing nonviolent video games has actually been linked to lowering stress levels. Surprised? When you become absorbed in a video game, you also become distracted and outside stresses become practically nonexistent. Being able to let go for a little while allows your nervous system to relax and therefor relieve stress. 4. Walk Any form of exercise is a great way to distress yourself. Although some studies show that too strenuous of exercise when you are stressed only leads to further stress, not everybody is the same. Walking is a great place to start however. Taking a stroll around the office or neighborhood may just get your mind off of your current distractions and allow you to relax and focus on what you need to do. 5. Mantra Mantras are awesome for getting you through almost any situation from running a marathon to dealing with an illness. Coming up with an original mantra or using a motivational quote can really help you stay focused and beat the stress. |
